Moving eeek!

All quiet on the cake front atm. We are moving in the next three days to hopefully gain greater family support and the opportunity to eventually set up my cakes as a business. I am excited at the prospect of taking customer orders and broadening my skills further. I am so passionate about cakes but must admit I am enjoying the break from decorating. I have my cousins wedding cake to do in November which will be a fun yet time consuming cake. Lots of roses!! I think I will suss out the market in wagga and determine what field of cake decorating to go down as in whether there are already lots of wedding cake decorators then I will concentrate initially on birthday cakes. I like birthday cakes the most as they tend to be the most fun and creative to make. They also don't have to be perfect unlike a wedding cake which is a talking point at a wedding!

I think I will use the break from cakes to discover and taste test some more cupcake recipes so that I can offer customers a range as well as cookies. Not sure of the success of these but its worth a try.

Here is a christening cake I made for my sisters daughter last year. It was a massive cake and was toblerone mud on the bottom and white mud on the top.
Hvaing three boys I don't get to make too many girly cakes so this was fun to make.

Some past creations

Here are some of my recent creations.

The 3d Wall-E cake was a challenge my husband set for me. He persuaded our son to ask for it so that I couldn't say no! It was probably one of the most complex cakes I have done so far. The head, neck and arms were foam and the body was a vanilla buttercake. I had some icing issues when covering the cake as the fondant went really dry and cracked when I tried to cover the cake as one piece. In the end I covered each area seperately as I didn't want to have to recolour and use more. My son of course loved it ( I am sure he would have loved anything though) so the test was accomplished. Only problem is now for his next birthday he wants a 3d Buzz lightyear!! Yikes!!

The fairy toadstool cake was for my nieces 1st Birthday.
I had never done a toadstool before and thought it would be a cute cake.
Why is everything always easier than it looks?
I won't go into detail here but the top cake was not as perfect as it could have been.

The Teapot cake was yet again another first for me. It was one of the most enjoyable cakes I have made mainly because I was much more organised and had planned everything out. It is a chocolate mud cake with milk chocolate ganache as a filling. The spout and handle were made from modelling paste as was the fairy.

As I am godparent to my cousins daughter I took it upon myself to design her christening cake. The theme was to be unicorns and the colour purple.
This cake came together at the last minute as I wasn't
quite sure about what the exact design was going to be.
The top cake was a cherry ripe mud with dark chocolate
ganache filling. The bottom tier was chocolate mud cake
with milk chocolate filling. The unicorn was made in advance
using modelling paste as was the rainbow.

Well I have finally decided to create my own cake decorating blog! I am still relatively new to the whole cake decorating process having only been doing it for about 1 1/2yrs. I still have alot to learn but have been enjoying the learning curve so far.

Here is my latest cake creation. This was made for a friends wedding who wanted a simple yet modern cupcake design. The top cake was a chocolate mud cake with dark chocolate ganache and choc mud cupcakes with ganache swirls. This was my first ever cupcake tower and it was not without problems. On the day of decorating I managed to spill over half of the gold cachous all over the floor. Luckily I still had enough left to finish the cake. I also had issues with the chocolate ganache not wanting to pipe for me. All in all a great learning experience and hopefully if I do another down the track, it will be smooth sailing!
